January 7: Camouflage Snuggie

Saturday, January 7, 2012 - Posted by 366 White Elephants at 2:48 PM
Given to Sandy from Ray.

All it needs now is a cooler for your beers and sodas
A snuggie is the kind of gift you probably wouldn't actively seek out and purchase for yourself, but one you're glad to get.  Serendipitously, Sandy's came with extra room for a snuggle-mate.
I love you thhiissss much!
Interested?  Here's Sandy's bio-turned-personal ad.

Sandy
-Profession: Resident Physician
-Favorite organ: The heart.  There's a really special bond when the patient is quiet and I'm really focused on listening to the person's heart sound.
-Member of the family she refuses to treat: dogs and other pets

-Q: When you see people here in the States with Chinese tattoos, is it completely hilarious?
-A: Yes.  There's this one guy I know who has a tattoo for the Chinese symbol of 'strength'.  But, it's backwards.  It doesn't mean anything when the symbol is reversed.
-Q: Do Chinese people get English words tattooed on themselves?
-A: Yes.  It's hilarious. Chinese people will get 'love', 'truth', and 'peace', etc tattoos.  However, it's much harder to tattoo them backwards.

January 6: Knit cap, necklace, scarf and bracelet

Given to Ray from Amanda.
Oh, snap!
If you can accessorize for a cross-dressing party 8 months in advance, you've had a good gift exchange.  As it happens, Ray is going to such a party and got the dream package of the year with a knit cap, tasteful necklace, a scarf that matches his complexion, and a wooden bracelet, which he broke trying to slide over his hand.  It took him a few tries to get the necklace latched.  He did manage, however, to put the knit cap and scarf on like a pro.

January 5: Vera Wang princess basket

Thursday, January 5, 2012 - Posted by 366 White Elephants at 10:52 PM
Given to Amanda from Emily.

I had a moment of truth today.  I gave serious thought to prematurely ending this blog on a high note--taking this Vera Wang smörgåsbord and keeping all for me, me, me.  But poor Amanda...what on Earth would she do?  I may know a good find when I see one (especially the tiara), but I'm no heartbreaker.  And so we continue on.

In case you can't make out the goodies, here's your guide:  Left to right: diary, mini purse, tiara, rolled-up shirt.
Temptation takes many forms

Amanda
-Profession: Keys and IDs
-Favorite way to eat a potato: French Fries
-Hidden talent: gospel singer
-Intended use for tiara: birthday par-tays, c'mon!

January 4: Cruzer Flash Drive

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 - Posted by 366 White Elephants at 10:34 PM
Given to Emily from Dawn.

We're a few days into this and, so far, everyone's a happy camper.  Emily is looking forward to carting her digital files around from home to car, car to work, work to gym, gym to home, etc with this sleek, efficient flash drive.  I'm actually thinking of writing a spinoff blog next year, following Emily for an entire year on the whereabouts and use of this drive.
Just think: In the 70s, this amount of memory
would take up an entire office parkway

Cute as the dickens
Emily
-Profession: community outreach for the Civic Commons
-Favorite Body of Water: Lake Michigan
-Nickname: Em

-Dan: Most people call you 'Em'. Did you know you can play your name as a Scrabble word, which means 'the letter M'?
-Emily: Hmm...Good to know.
-Dan: You can also play 'El' ('the letter L') and 'Es' ('the letter S').  If they were someone's nicknames, what would their full name be?
-Emily: For 'El', 'Mel'...and for 'Es', probably 'Les'.  Oh, oh...I mean, 'Elaine' for 'El' and 'Esther' for 'Es'.
-Dan: You appear to be an excellent Words with Friends player.
-Emily: I am. And my go-to word is fabulous. It's fabulous that it's fabulous.

January 3: Aluminum Wallet

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 - Posted by 366 White Elephants at 10:39 PM
Given to Dawn from Jack.

Rapid Reaction from Dawn:
"Wow, that's a great gift."  "Actually, wow, that's a really great gift."

Look for yourselves, ladies and gentlemen.  It's the perfect gift for any man or woman friend (check the advertising)--for that Pat, Chris, Robin, Taylor or Morgan in your life.  And like so many "As Seen On TV" products--the Ped Egg Pedicure Foot File, the Motsenbocker 419-05 Hand Cleaner or the Luma Tweeze Lighted Tweezers--just to name a few, you're in good shape here.  Back your car over it.  Swim with it.  Throw a pocket-sized grenade inside it.  It will never let you down.

Interesting fact about aluminum: The ancient Greeks and Romans used it for medicinal purposes.

And tonight's lovely recipient of said wallet is Dawn.  I have no idea what Dawn's karaoke abilities are, but here are some fun facts about her:

Seeing if the wallet repels a camera's flash, too
Dawn
-Profession: Massotherapist
-Favorite kind of lettuce:  kale
-# of times a boyfriend has said to her "Ya know, I think this is the dawn of a new relationship": 0
-# of times a friend has given her Dawn dish detergent thinking they were being clever: 0

Given to Jack from Dan.

A former Barker's Beauty
Jack is one superb guy and I'm pleased to present him as the inaugural white elephant exchanger.  Jack's one of those guys you could exchange a white elephant gift with every day of the year 'cause he's got so many of them.  I was hoping he'd bring his singing fish plaque for this exchange; sadly, he did not.  You'll get to see his little prize tomorrow.

Let's Meet Him...

Jack
-Profession: Director; Professor

-Favorite U.S. President: Harry Truman

-Celebrity look-alike: Sean Connery; Papa Smurf

-Shoe size: 11.5

-You're our first bearded gift exchanger.  Are you jolly?:  You can bet the pair of jeans you're wearing I'm jolly!

-Dan: Since you knew about this blog for about 3 weeks, were you bored that you knew the gift you were getting?
-Jack: Hell no.  I'm old.  I'd completely forgotten what the hell you were doing.  Give me two weeks and I'm gone.
-Dan: Any idea what you'll buy with $25 on Amazon?
-Jack: Beats me.  Maybe the same damn thing I gave you for what's his nuts tomorrow.
