Brian said he got the dapper-looking hat from a friend via a similar gift exchange a couple of years ago and picked up the sun hat--or "rice paddy" hat as he calls it--on a family trip to Disneyworld. The rain hat was given to him by a University department that was supposed to be an "umbrella" (and, as he says, wanted to let other people know on campus that they were the umbrella department by giving out these obnoxious hats) over other departments on campus--in other words, a low-grade, no-consequences-to-the-outside-world dictatorship.
Words of wisdom: (1) If you've worked in higher education and never in the corporate world, you'd wilt under its intense power-tie sunshine and pant-suit heat. (2) If you've worked in the corporate world and never in higher education, you'd go permanently mad from drinking too much kumbaya-flavored Kool-Aid.
